Starting Your GEICO Claim

GEICO is a direct insurer, so claims are normally started in the GEICO app, on geico.com or by phone rather than through a local agent. GEICO will then assign an adjuster, who may start with photos before anyone sees the car in person.

When you come in, it helps to bring your claim number, your adjuster's name and phone number, your policy card and any photos you took at the scene. If you do not have all of that yet, bring the vehicle anyway and we will help you work out the rest.

Do I Have to Use a GEICO-Recommended Shop?

No. GEICO may suggest shops, but Kentucky law gives you the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. If you choose AutoMax, we work with GEICO on your behalf. We submit our estimate and photos to your adjuster and answer their questions so you are not stuck relaying messages.

Hidden Damage and Supplements

An initial estimate often misses damage that is only visible once panels and bumpers come off. When we find something extra, we stop, photograph it, write a supplement and send it to your GEICO adjuster for approval before continuing, so your claim and your repair both stay accurate.

If Your Car Is Not Drivable

Tell your GEICO claim representative where the car is, and ask whether your policy includes towing and rental reimbursement. We can start the estimate as soon as the vehicle arrives, and structural damage is checked with a full structural damage assessment.

GEICO gave me a photo-based estimate. Do I still need to bring the car to AutoMax?

A photo estimate is a starting point. Once a vehicle is partly disassembled, hidden damage often shows up behind bumpers, fenders and panels. We document it and send a supplement to your GEICO adjuster.

GEICO sent me to a different shop. Can I switch to AutoMax?

In most cases yes, as long as repairs have not started. Call us at 502-964-2880 and tell your GEICO adjuster you want the work done at AutoMax. The choice of shop is yours.

Will my GEICO repair include ADAS calibration if it is needed?

If the repair touches bumpers, windshields, mirrors or sensors, cameras and radar may need recalibration. We will tell you when that applies and include it in the repair plan. See our ADAS calibration service.
