Starting Your USAA Claim

USAA serves military members, veterans and their families, and claims are most often started in the USAA app, online or by phone. USAA will assign a claims representative and may ask for photos of the damage.

When you come in, it helps to bring your claim number, your adjuster's name and phone number, your policy card and any photos you took at the scene. If you do not have all of that yet, bring the vehicle anyway and we will help you work out the rest.

Do I Have to Use a USAA-Recommended Shop?

No. USAA may suggest shops, but Kentucky law gives you the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. If you choose AutoMax, we work with USAA on your behalf. We submit our estimate and photos to your adjuster and answer their questions so you are not stuck relaying messages.

Hidden Damage and Supplements

An initial estimate often misses damage that is only visible once panels and bumpers come off. When we find something extra, we stop, photograph it, write a supplement and send it to your USAA adjuster for approval before continuing, so your claim and your repair both stay accurate.

If Your Car Is Not Drivable

Tell your USAA claim representative where the car is, and ask whether your policy includes towing and rental reimbursement. We can start the estimate as soon as the vehicle arrives, and structural damage is checked with a full structural damage assessment.

I am active duty or deployed. Can someone else bring my vehicle in?

Often yes, with your authorization. Call us at 502-964-2880 and we will explain what we need from you and your USAA claim representative before another person drops off the vehicle.

Does USAA require a specific repair shop?

No. USAA may have recommended shops, but you are free to choose where your vehicle is repaired. We will communicate directly with your USAA claims representative.

Will my USAA repair include ADAS calibration if it is needed?

If the repair touches bumpers, windshields, mirrors or sensors, cameras and radar may need recalibration. We will tell you when that applies and include it in the repair plan. See our ADAS calibration service.
